Secret email about the Post Office Scandal. Shh!

Fire up the lawyers

Hello secret emailers

Since December quite a few people have approached me asking for advice. Asking a journalist for advice is usually a terrible idea, but I do sympathise with the predicament many people find themselves in.

My respondents broadly fall into three categories:

a) those who have just heard about the group litigation and have similar stories to the claimants.

b) those whose cases are with the CCRC and/or who have gone through to the court of appeal and who simply have no idea what is going to happen next

c) those who were claimants who are spitting feathers at the likely size of their share of the settlement.

I have written a blog post which may, or may not help some of the above, it’s called Are You Looking For Legal Representation?. Please read it and let me know what you think.

Private Eye

Private Eye magazine is still on sale. If you haven’t already seen a copy, it has a six-page special investigation into the Post Office starting on page 24. It takes about half an hour to read and is worth the £2 entry fee. Please buy it if you can. Thank you for all those who have got in touch with Lord Gnome or me directly. Your kind words mean a lot.

Panorama

The Panorama “Scandal at the Post Office” doesn’t currently doesn’t have a tx date. I sincerely hope it will get broadcast, in fact, I will be mightily annoyed if it doesn’t, but there isn’t much I can do about it from here.

Request

I am trying to find someone who was prosecuted by the Post Office, ended up with a criminal conviction, but who wasn’t a claimant in the recent High Court litigation. If that is you, or you know someone who that applies to, please get in touch.

Angela van den Bogerd

My writing up of the judge’s thoughts on the Post Office’s Angela van den Bogerd’s performance across the group litigation seems to have gone down well. Do give it a read if you haven’t already.

Going nowhere

I suspect we’re going to be on lockdown for a few weeks more yet. It’ll be interesting to see how much energy returns to the Post Office story once the coronavirus has done its worst.

I hope you’re all okay. Stay safe and well and please do email me at nick@nickwallis.com if you know someone who was prosecuted by the Post Office who wasn’t a group litigation claimant. As we say in the media, it’s for a thing.

Best

Nick
