Secret email about the Post Office Scandal. Shh!

Four more CCRC referrals

CCRC’s solid half-century

A belated Happy New Year to you all. I hope you had a good Christmas break and you are dealing with lockdown okay. I met my first vaccinee (?!) on Monday and my in-laws (who are both in their 70s) are getting theirs tomorrow.

I have cranked up the secret email to alert you to another four referrals to the court of appeal/crown court by the CCRC. I’ve written it up here. The CCRC have now referred 51 cases with a further 20 under review.

Clarke advice ruling

I’ve also finally received the ruling from the Court of Appeal explaining why I am not (yet?) allowed to see the Clarke Advice. The former Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer called the “smoking gun” of this scandal. I have asked a learned person to comment on the ruling and will publish something as soon as I can.

It’ll take something to top 2020, but it looks like 2021 is going to be an busy year. The Williams inquiry will crank up, as will the Parliamentary Ombudsman investigation led by Alan Bates. The main Court of Appeal hearing is set for 22 March and I expect we’ll see the first of the malicious prosecution claims against the Post Office – and criminal investigations into those responsible? Who knows…
