Secret email about the Post Office Scandal. Shh!

Panorama back on, Ep 4 of the Great Post Office Trial out today and Nick says sorry!

Avengers Assemble

Hello again

Panorama is back on, I have a new blog post to tell you about and, of course, today you can listen to part 4 of The Great Post Office Trial – Navigating the Matrix on BBC Radio 4.

This episode is about how MPs, the Justice For Subpostmasters Alliance and independent investigators Second Sight were brought together and what they found. It doesn’t have anything like the emotional impact of yesterday’s episode – but it’s an important staging post in the story. I hope you like it. It goes out after the World At One on BBC Radio 4 at 1.45pm today and If you miss it you can hear it and the first three episodes here. Each episode is only 14 minutes long so you’ll be done in an hour if you want to binge-listen all four.

New blog post

The Post Office chief executive, Nick Read, has said he’s sorry claimants are disappointed with their compensation, but there isn’t much he can do about it. He’s also committed to cooperating with whatever inquiry into his organisation the government sets up. Read more here.

My thanks to Ross George for writing the open letter to the Post Office CEO which provoked the above responses. I am grateful to him for giving me first look at it, too.

Panorama

The “lost” Panorama: Scandal at the Post Office, has been rescheduled for 8 June, 7.30pm, BBC 1. Given our strange times, that might change. I am very much hoping it doesn’t. This is what the BBC says about it:

“Hundreds of sub-postmasters were jailed or financially ruined after computers said money was missing from their branches, but the Post Office has admitted that its Horizon system can make mistakes. But when did senior managers find this out, and did they continue to prosecute postmasters for stealing when they knew technology could be to blame? Reporter Nick Wallis investigates what could be Britain’s biggest-ever miscarriage of justice scandal and uncovers evidence of a cover-up at the Post Office.”

More local radio

After getting my voice into Radio 4’s Today prog on Monday, BBC London on Tuesday and BBC Sussex yesterday, I will be on BBC Surrey this morning at 7.50am talking about Jo Hamilton (whose case is currently with the Court of Appeal) and on BBC Radio Humberside at 10.07am talking about Janet Skinner (whose case is also at the Court of Appeal).

If you can consume any or all of the above media, I would be grateful.

Thanks for all the correspondence this week. It’s been a bit difficult to deal with it all properly and efficiently so apologies if you have not had a response or acknowledgment. It is very kind of you to take the time to get in touch.

Finally, hello and welcome to all the new secret emailers. Thanks so much for taking an interest in this story and signing up. It’s great to have you on board.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Nick
